Happy 2020 everyone!

Week one 2020 is done and KIS is already back in full swing. Today's Atsumari had some cultural perspectives and background to Coming of Age Day (Seijin no hi); a student book review; and finished with some quiet reading. It is truly great to be back. See you in school.

International Day - 14 February

On Friday February 14 KIS will celebrate our internationality, and everyone is invited!

We currently have more than 20 nationalities in the school and we would like to celebrate this fact and that one of our cores values is being a global citizen who:

  • is aware of the wider world and has a sense of their own role as a world citizen
  • respects and values diversity
  • has an understanding of how the world works
  • participates in the community at a range of levels, from the local to the global

Normal lessons will finish around 1150. We will then gather in the gym to celebrate International Day with performances and activities. We will be joined on the day by a visiting school from Indonesia, as well!

The day will finish with a Food Fiesta of national dishes. We will share these meals in the KIS gym for the remainder of the afternoon. All student will be asked to contribute a plate of traditional food from their country. These will be shared out amongst all the students. Aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, the event will be bring your own eating tools, plate and cup. (Zero waste is our goal). So start thinking about what you want to cook or supply or present on that day, that celebrates who we are!

Coordinating the Food Fiesta will be:

Annie Natarajan annienatarajan@gmail.com

Debbie Sakura dsakura@kis.ac.jp

The Food Fiesta team will be in touch next week about how to prepare for International Day.

More news to follow about this exciting event.
