Coffee morning at KIS

On Wednesday morning a good gathering of KIS parents met with Mr Taylor in the Community Room.

This was the first chance to explore teaching and learning at KIS. Topics discussed were the future of the IB in Japan; how to be collaborative in learning; and comparing and contrasting an IB education and a Japanese education.

Our next coffee morning will be Wednesday 13th November (9am). Hope you can make it.

Hello from our counselor

Dear KIS parents,

Hello! My name is Naho Kikuchi. Please call me Ms. Naho. I am the new school counselor who will be coming to KIS for two days a month. Some of you might have seen me in the morning this week as you drop of your children. I look forward to getting to know you and being a part of KIS community.

For the past 22 years, I was a school counselor at The American School in Japan. My husband, Ron, and I together with our little dog Pickles live in Tokyo, and our two children (a son and a daughter) are working and studying in the U.S.

I have enjoyed observing many classrooms during this visit. Students here are well taken care of, happy, and are enjoying each other’s company.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child. I will meet with you, observe your child, talk with your child’s teacher, and offer suggestions. If you are interested I can be reached at counselor@kis.ac.jp. I will also be on campus on November 14th &15th, and December 5th & 6th.

Hope to meet many of you this year!

Halloween is fast approaching! This year,we will have a Halloween event afternoon only.

The KIS Halloween Parade is coming up fast! Mark your calendars and get the costumes not only for your children but for yourself as well.

It’s on Friday, November 1, 2019 Afternoon !

For those of you new to KIS this is a great event where students get to dress up in costumes, trick-or-treat, some activities. It is always one of the most memorable events of the school year, but we need help from the entire community to make it happen!

1. We are starting to collect candy donations from 15th October. The PTA will set up a Halloween Basket at the front entrance. We have over 120 students this year so we need a lot of CANDY for trick-or-treat. Please leave donations in the basket.

2. We will have Halloween Cafe from 13:00-15:30.

We will also ask for baked goods, cookies, cakes that you can kindly donate in the morning of the festival. Please remember, you don’t have to actually bake things! Store-bought treats are fine, too. Please just make sure they are individually wrapped (for example, two or three cookies in a single plastic bag).

3.As always, we will need volunteers to

  • Supervising parade (1:00pm to 2:30pm)
  • Decorating Gym (12:00pm - )
  • Helping Halloween Cafe (12:00pm - 15:30 except during parade time)
  • Cleaning up decoration after event.
