The Grade 6-8s, together with Ms Cote and Mr Robinson, headed off on Tuesday for Nagano prefecture and their Leadership and Wilderness Camp. A full report will be forthcoming in the next newsletter but in the meantime enjoy some of the Hakuba action.

(Families And Books - The FAB librarian programme)


FAB got underway this week. A small but happy band of parents utilised the library with their children under the guidance of our librarian, Galina.

Goal: caregivers/parents to enjoy time with their children- choose books with their children; borrow up to two books with their children; and read with their children

Day: every Thursday

Venue: KIS Library

Time: 3:30 to 4:30

Requirement: Every Child has to be accompanied by a parent.

Book borrowing: Students can borrow up to two books at a time

Walking Tour with a certified tour guide!


PTA organizes the first waking tour this academic year on 10/11 (Fri)!

Misuzu, a member of PTA & a certified guide-interpreter, takes you to the neighborhood of KIS & you will get to know the area better!

The tour is free for the first time & organized especially for new families to KIS, but anyone of KIS community is welcome.


Date: 11th of October (Fri)

Time: 9h00-12h00-ish

Meeting point: @ KIS

Ending point: @ Life Nishinjin (grocery store)


We will visit a shrine, historic spots, a Japanese confectioner, the textile museum w/ Kimono show, and more!

We will also stop by a local grocery store called Life. Pls do not hesitate to ask any questions if you are curious about some groceries and you do not know what they are cs the info on the package is only in Japanese.

Open invitation to Atsumari (Assembly)

Each Friday KIS celebrates the week in our Atsumari (Assembly) EL1-G8 gather in the Gym from 14.30. Please join us and end the week on a KIS high!

Come along and learn Japanese with Ms. Tokura (Jung Sook) 11:20 -12:05 on Wednesdays in the library.

Weather Warnings

In specific circumstances KIS applies the following guidelines:

KIS applies the guides for temperatures in Kyoto Prefecture found at Heat Stress Index (Kyoto) This may result in a change of normal activities and routines for school that day.

Hazardous Wind Watch- KIS is guided by the Japan Meteorological Agency. KIS is guided by the warnings for Kyoto Prefecture found at Hazardous Wind Watch Kyoto. This may result in a change of normal activities and routines for school that day.

Thunderstorms- KIS is guided by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

KIS is guided by the warnings for Kyoto Prefecture found at Weather Warnings/Advisories (Thunderstorms) : Kyoto-shi If a warning is then outdoor activity must be suspended and students and staff must take shelter.
